Module 1_Introduction

Hi my name is Sarah Hoffman, I am in my 2nd year of the Psych NP program. It has been quite the experience thus far! I work at McKay Dee hospital in the acute inpatient adult psych unit, which I love. When I have spare time, I enjoy 4 wheeling, hanging out with my hubby and 3 boys.
Currently I am completing my practicum at the VA clinic in South Ogden. It is an honor to work with the veterans. I see technology being used by practitioners in the form of almost immediate access to clinical data on computers and handheld devices (such as smart phones). Almost instantly it is possible to bring up information on any psych diagnosis as well as evidence based practices for such disorders. Patients also have more access to technology than ever before and are being proactive in using this technology. For example: hospitals have links on their websites where patients and their families can blog and post updates as to their condition while hospitalized. A friend of mine also recently lost her dad to suicide and she has found it therapeutic to blog about her feelings in regards to her father commiting suicide. The evidence shows that technology is becoming more user friendly and an acceptable form of communication in health care.

  1. Welcome Sarah, thanks for describing the technology in your clinical setting--your experience in each of the areas you identified will be helpful in every part of the course.
